TOP 9 GIRLS GENERATION TITLE SONGS

Nine years ago on August 8th a nine member girl group made their debut in the kpop world to then grow out in the most legendary girl group in the industry. Of course I am talking about Girls Generation! To celebrate the nine years with Girls Generation, I am counting down my top nine Girls Generation title songs!

9: Mr. Taxi
Coming in at number nine I have the title song from their Japanese album “Girls’ Generation”. This song was released in 2011 and is my second favorite Japanese song of the girls. The album topped the Japanese charts and was the first foreign (none Japanese) group to ever do so. Mr. Taxi is a fun electric song which a nice beat to it

8: Lion Heart
Lion Heart is the title song of their 2015 album “Lion Heart”. The song has a strong vintage vibe and is just a lot of fun. The music video is my favorite of the girls since it is just funny and cute music video.

7: Into the new world
Coming in at number seven I have the song that started it all. Into the new world is Girls’ Generations debut song. The song was released in 2007 and wasn’t a huge success. The song is a girlish pop rock song and has a huge nostalgic value to Girls’ Generation fans!
>Music Video<

6: The Boys (Korean Version)
The Boys is the title song from the 2011 album The Boys. The song has a strong 90s girl group vibe and has a chorus you won’t easily forget. “You know the girls.. bring the boys out!” is one line every kpop fan can sing along to. The music video also has a strong cinematic feeling to it
>Music Video<

5: All my love is for you
All My Love is for you wasn’t going to be a title song, but due to its popularity it became one. All my love is for you is a beautiful ballad from the 2012 Japanese album “Girls & Peace”. It’s my favorite Japanese song from the girls and my favorite ballad from them. It’s just so beautiful and honest and cute

4: Mr. Mr.
dd7f8-140312-snsd-mrmr-promotion
Mr. Mr. is the title song of the 2014 mini album Mr. Mr.. The Mr. Mr. album is probably my favorite Girls Generation album and Mr. Mr. is a really good electro song. It has some EDM and Hip Hop influences, but still has that classic bubblegum pop Girls Generation vibe to it. Aesthetically the Mr. Mr. music video and general era is my favorite
>Music Video<

3: Run Devil Run
run_devil_run___snsd_iii_by_higsousa-d36brb4
Run Devil Run is the title song of the 2010 Repackaged album of Oh! titled Run Devil Run. The song is actually a cover of a Ke$ha song, but I prefer the Girls Generation version. The song grew to be one of the most iconic Girls Generation songs.
>Music Video<

2: I got a boy
I got a boy is the most viewed music video by a kpop girl group ever. The song is the title song of the 2013 album I got a boy and was a huge success for the group. The music video won the first youtube awards and beat artists like Psy and Justin Bieber by doing so. I got a boy is Girls Generation’s masterpiece. The song has a lot of twists which makes it super interesting to listen to
>Music Video<

1: Gee
My favorite Girls Generation song has to be their most iconic song ever.. aka Gee from the 2009 Gee album. This is the song that got Girls Generation their popularity. The song is a cute and happy bubblegum pop song with a bright and happy music video which is the second most viewed kpop girl group music video ever. This song made Girls Generation the legends they are today and I cannot get enough of it

Kpop in March 2016

Kpop in” is a series in which I tell you the three best kpop songs of the month. Here is the best kpop of March 2016!

  1. Amber – Borders

Borders is a full English song by F(x)’s rapper Amber. The song is beautiful and inspiring with lyrics that gives me the chills. The song came with a note from Amber, telling her fans to keep fighting no matter how hard it is. I honestly can see this song becoming one of my all time favorite songs in general. It came to me on the right moment and I am forever thankful for Amber for writing this masterpiece!
Favorite line: “I know I can trust the feelings that I feel when the road is rough”
    Signed with: S.M. Entertainment
  2. Wendy ft. Eric Nam – Spring Love

Two of my favorite artists worked together to create this adorable country song that throws me back to the 2008 Taylor Swift vibe! Spring Love is a song that makes me super happy when I listen to it. It is really cute and listening to it just makes my heart melt. Songs like Spring Love is the reason why I love the S.M. STATION project!
Favorite line: “Be my spring, I’ll always be your flower”
    Band bias: Both!
Signed with: S.M. Entertainment (Wendy) and C.J. E&M Music (Eric Nam)
  3. Oh My Girl – Liar Liar

The Oh My Girl comeback was super hyped up, but I didn’t expect much from it. Honestly the teasers didn’t sound good to me at all. However when Liar Liar dropped, I gave it a shot anyways. And I am so glad I did! I fell in love with the song from the first time I listened to it! It is really catchy and I can easily see myself listening it for years to come! The whole Pink Ocean album is just good like that to be honest!
Favorite line: “I am somewhere in between a dream and reality”
    Band bias: YooA
    Signed with: LOEN Entertainment

My PRODUCE 101 top 11

With the PRODUCE 101 finally coming up, I thought it would be the perfect moment to show you what 11 girls I want in the PRODUCE 101 girl group in my top 11 girls from PRODUCE 101!

For those of you who don’t know what PRODUCE 101 is, let me give a quick description: PRODUCE 101 is a Korean survival show which started with 101 trainee girls from different companies. In the end there will be one girl group with 11 members who will be together for a year.

  1. Han Hyeri || Star Empire EntertainmentHan Hyeri is a contestant who didn’t grab my attention at all in the beginning (in my defense, there were literally 101 girls!), but suddenly I started to notice her in later episodes. Looking back at old performances, I think she would be a great addition to a girl group. She has that adorable vibe around her and her voice is adorable too. It is really different from most girls which makes her stand out from others.
  1. Jung Chae Yeon || MBK EntertainmentChaeyeon captured my attention with her performance of “into the new world”. She is a very talented girl who can transfer the emotions of a song very well (she is known for her facial expressions after all). She was always low key on my radar, but didn’t make my personal top 11 until now!
Chaeyeon is already part of a girl group though, a rookie group named DIA.
  1. Kim Se Jeong || Jellyfish EntertainmentKim Sejeong is the publics favorite contestant and it’s almost 100% sure that she will be in the group. She has amazing vocals and a adorable personality. I am confident that she will debut soon!
  1. Lee Hae In || SS Entertainmentproduce-101-lee-haein-photo18I think Lee Haein is the sexiest girl in PRODUCE 101 and she sure would get the group lots of male fans. But putting looks aside, she is amazing. She has an amazing stage presence and knows how to play a crowd. She is a great singer and dancer and just one of those all round talents!
  1. Zhou Jieqiong (Pinky) || Pledis EntertainmentPinky has captured me attention pretty early on. She slayed her center in episode 4 and she kept slaying since. She has that innocent vibe that most my favorite female idols have and I think she would fit right into a girl group. She also has a very sweet personality and I feel like she isn’t as greedy as most girls on the show.
  1. Ki Heui-Hyeon (Cathy) || MBK EntertainmentCathy has been in my top 11 from the start. Her skills are amazing and she is one of the best dancers on the show. Just like Chaeyeon she is already part of a girl group (DIA), but I still want them to win. There talent is just too big and they really deserve it. Also I hope this will get their group more publicity, because DIA is very underrated!
  1. Chungha || M&H EntertainmentFirstly I’d like to mention that Chungha is so drop dead gorgeous that I can’t even! But obviously this isn’t why I want her in the group.
Chunga is a very underrated girl and I wish people would pay more attention to her. They would see she is amazing at dancing and great at singing!
  1. Yu Yeun Jung || STARSHIP EntertainmentSTARSHIP Entertainment is known for its talented vocalists and Yeunjung is no expection to this. She was in my top 11 before, but never this high. She moved up after she slayed her high notes in the song “In the same place”
  1. Kang Mina || Jellyfish EntertainmentThe Jellyfish girls are the most popular girls on the show. Kang Mina is my favorite from them. She is just really cute and she seems like a genuinely nice person. She has that girl next door vibe that I love and of course her talent is on point!
  1. Jeon So Mi (Somi) || JYP EntertainmentAt first I wasn’t sure if I wanted Somi in there for her agency or her talent. But now I know it’s for her talent. In the beginning she was a bit stiff on stage, but she has improved a lot! Now she has the best stage presence on the show, my eyes always get drawn to her. She also has a adorable, funny and awkward personality which makes me love her even more. It was a really close call between her and my number one…
  1. Jeon So Yeon || Cube EntertainmentSoyeon has been my favorite from the first episode and even though Somi got close, Soyeon is still my number one. She is the best rapper from the group and has a very unique voice which would help a girl group stand out against others. Plus she looks and is adorable!
Her rank has been going down and it’s breaking my heart. Right now, it seems like she wont debut, but I really hope that changes!

Did you agree to my list? Who are your favorite girls from PRODUCE 101?

Until my next post,

Kpop in February 2016

Kpop in” is a series in which I tell you what the three best kpop songs of the month were, here is the best kpop of February 2016!

  1. AOA CREAM – I’m jelly BABY

I’m jelly BABY is one of my new all time favorite songs! The debut song of the AOA sub-unit is amazing, extremely catchy and addictive. The music video is also fun and just I love everything about it. I think I’m jelly BABY is even better than the songs from AOA.
Favorite line: “Hey loser, are you happy?”
    Band bias: Chanmi
    Signed with: FNC Music
  2. 4MINUTE – Hate

4MINUTE is one of my favorite groups, the girls in it are bad ass! Their new song Hate is amazing as well. Many fans don’t really like it and claim it sounds like two songs at the same time, but that’s why I love it. It is really interesting to listen too and the music video has some great visuals.
Favorite line: “I see the end of our seemingly endless love”
    Band bias: Hyuna
    Signed with: Cube Entertainment
  3. B.A.P – Feel so good

B.A.P is back with a quite surprising song. The only B.A.P song I knew before this was “Young, Wild and Free” which is a emo vibe song. But now they are back with a cute and happy retro concept in their new song Feel so good and I love it. The song is just a lot of fun and makes me really happy when I listen to it!
Favorite line: “I thought I was blinded by the love and all the lies, but when I close my eyes I see you”
    Band bias: Zelo
    Signed with: TS Entertainment

Big Bang MADE TOUR Final in Seoul review

Just like many kpop fans (especially the VIPs) I have watched the MADE TOUR Final in Seoul concert live on the V app. And let me tell you, it was an emotional roller coaster! Mostly because after this there is only the 10th anniversary concert and then… the forced hiatus due to their military service time.

It was so emotional that towards the end you could see the tears in the leader’s (G-Dragon) eyes. This started with his solo performance of “Crooked”, but you could really see him struggling when it was time for the goodbye speech. His tears made me and many VIPs cry.

“The last ten years haven’t only been good days. But you’ve Always waited for us, protected us and loved us” -GDragon at the MADE TOUR Final in Seoul (06/03/16)

I wonder if G-Dragon was worried or sad or just tired, because he seemed last energetic after the final speech when they preformed one final song. The song that put Big Bang on the map, Fantastic Baby.

The oldest of the group (T.O.P) also seemed to struggle to keep his emotion in check during the goodbye speech. Luckily enough there was Seungri who provided the much needed comic releave with his hilarious dance to “Single ladies” by Beyoncé.

Besides the underlying sadness, it was just an amazing show to watch. Every single Big Bang member has an incredible live voice! The set list was amazing and included all of my favorite songs of them. The only thing that bugged me was that the connection through the V app was kind of bad and kept failing…
Screenshot_2016-03-06-10-56-41[1]

I absolute love that Big Bang let everyone watch the concert for free through the V app, it shows how much they care about the fans and how thankful they are.

10 reasons why I like kpop (and you should too)

If you follow my blog, you might have noticed I am in love with kpop.. This obsession (and it has become an obsession) is pretty new.. and I am already in way too deep. But I never told why I like kpop so much, so here are some of the reasons!

  1. Flashback to the 90s
Just like any 90s kid, I have a huge nostalgia towards this era. And the music is certainly a part of that. Well, a lot of kpop songs have this 90s vibe, it’s almost like you go back in time! Especially the group “Wonder girls” brings me back in time!

    wonder girls i feel you
    Wonder Girls – I feel you (2015)

  2. Gender roles? Nah, I rather have sushi rolls
Kpop music videos tend to not give a shit about gender roles, the male artists wear make up and the females are in suits! I love how they just don’t give a shit about your gender roles!

    amber shake that brass
Amber – Shake that brass (2015)

    g dragon crayon
    G-Dragon – Crayon (2012)
  3. Much kawaii
I have always been a sucker for kawaii (or the Korean version; Aegyo), I like just like cute things! That’s why I really love groups with a cutesy concept, like the girl group “Lovelyz”.

    lovelyz ah choo
    Lovelyz – Ah choo (2015)

  4. Catchy tunes
There is no denying the catchiness of kpop songs! Whenever I listen to kpop I just feel like I NEED TO DANCE! Trust me, you can’t stop moving when listening to songs like “Bubble pop by Hyuna”

    hyuna bubble pop
    Hyuna – Bubble pop (2011)

  5. It’s all about girl power
There are just so much bad ass girls in the kpop universe! Like the girls from “4minute”.

    4minute hate
    4Minute – Hate (2016)

  6. Dancing Kings and Queens!
Holy shit can kpop idols dance. Their moves are amazing, they are as good as professional dancers, all of them. The dances are just perfect. After a music video release there is always a dance practice released and fans really do enjoy learning those difficult dances. But no one can really get on EXO’s level…

    exo call me baby
EXO – Call me baby (2015)

  7. Music teasers
Music teasers are quite normal in the kpop industry, they are like commercials for new groups or new songs from a already existent group. This is a great way to get the fans excited. For example, the AOA fans were already exited about the sub-unit AOA Cream before their debut (AOA Cream – I’m jelly baby) because of the teasers!

    AOA CREAM im jelly baby
    AOA CREAM – I’m jelly baby teaser 1 (2016)
  8. THE MUSIC VIDEOS!
The music videos in kpop, where do I even start?! They are all high production and amazing. It doesn’t matter if they come from a big company or a smaller one, there is always a lot of taught put into the music videos. They are always cool, cute or crazy or all at the same time!

    red velvet dumb dumb
Red Velvet – Dumb dumb (2015)
  9. Variety shows
Variety shows are a huge thing in Korea and they are amazing. Kpop stars often guest star on them and it makes the fans feel like they really get to know the people on a deeper level. Personally I absolutely love “Running man” and “After school club”!

    markson
Mark and Jackson (GOT7) on a special episode of the After school club
  10. Hot Asians
Okay, so hot people is not the reason I listen to the music, but hey… I don’t mind them looking like they do!

    a-jax one 4 u
    A-JAX – One 4 U (2012)
    exid ah yeah
    EXID – Ah yeah (2015)

Kpop in January 2016

Kpop in” is a series I hold where I tell you what the three best kpop songs of the month were. Here is the best kpop of January 2016!

  1. Dal*Shabet – Someone like U
    dal-shabet-someone-like-you-1
Dal*Shabet is back after losing 2 of their members December 2015 and honestly, they’re rocking without them. I prefer their new song over all their old music. “Someone like U” is a catchy as fuck song with a very powerful lyrics about getting over a horrible boyfriend and hoping that he falls in love with someone like him. Plus the MV is so fun!
Favorite line: I don’t freakin’ need you
    Band bias: Woohee
    Signed with: Happy face
  2. Suzy ft. Baekhyun – Dream
    dreamduetkpop_0
Dream is the collaboration song with Suzy from Miss A and Baekhyun from EXO. The song is very jazzy and I feel like it would be perfect background music for a small café in Paris. It’s just a lovely song to daydream on.
Favorite line: Well I don’t care if you’re just a sweet liar
    Bias: Suzy
Signed with: JYP Entertainment (Suzy) & S.M. Entertainment (Baekhyun)
  3. Joonil Jung ft. BewhY – Plastic
acme1iiI had never heard of Joonil Jung before and I still don’t really know anything about him. I don’t even know what company he is with. But what I do know is that Plastic is a beautiful and emotional song that I keep listening too!
Favorite line: I don’t wanna die without you

Kpop in December 2015

“Kpop in is a series I hold where I tell you the what the three best kpop songs of the month were. Here is the best kpop of December 2015!

  1. LABOUM – Aalow aalow
    laboum-what-are-you-going-to-do
Before this song, I had never heard of the band LABOUM. But that doesn’t take my love for this song away. It is such a happy feel good song and a great break from all the sad ballads that you get during the winter time. It’s just great! And I am curious to discover more music by this girl group!
Favorite line: “Don’t worry, it’ll be a bit easier”
    Band bias: Haein
    Signed with: NH Media
  2. Hyolyn, Bumkey and Jooyoung – Love line
cwhsalsuwaassryThree artist from different groups came together to make this amazing song and one of them is from one of my favorite groups; SISTAR! The song has a very Jazzy vibe to which is rare in the kpop world. It’s originality makes me love it!
Favorite line: “I want to hear your voice, even though I am hearing it”
    Bias: Hyolyn
    Signed with: Starship entertainment
  3. EXO – Sing for you
    2015_season_greeting_china_2015
EXO surprised me with their new single, a slow song about a boy who is afraid to tell a girl he loves her.. so he will write her a song and sing it to her. Honestly, this song made my heart (and I bet the hearts of all the EXO fans) melt. It’s very sweet and calming to listen to.
Favorite line: “I am so thankful for every day that you are here, you’re a gift from God”
    Band bias: Kai
    Signed with: S.M. Entertainment

My favorite kpop songs from 2015

It was summer 2015 when I finally ventured into the world of kpop and not only did I make it out alive, I also found myself in love with like five thousand Korean people.. whoops. Being a new kpop fan I listened to some classic kpop songs (like Girls’ generation – Gee) and some new releases. Today I wanna talk about the new releases with my top five favorite kpop songs of 2015.

  1. VIXX LR – Beautiful liar
vixx_lr_beautiful_liar_704This is the first song of the spin off band VIXX LR (with Leo and Ravi from the band VIXX) and I am in love with it and their mini album “beautiful liar”. The songs on it are very slow and hard hitting and their voices are just so beautiful together. The song beautiful liar is about a man who pretends to not care about his girlfriend so it is easier for her to leave him.
Favorite line: “I haven’t imaged a life without you yet, but please be happy”
    Band bias: Leo
  2. TWICE – Like ooh ahh
    twice
Twice is a group that debuted in October 2015 and I am READY for another nine girls girl group! The song like ooh ahh is extremely catchy and their voices are adorable. Plus the music video is really interesting with the zombies!
Lyrically the song is about a girl who has to learn that she has to love herself first, before she can fall in love with anyone.
Favorite line: “I am not the kind of girl who gives herself away so easily”
    Band bias: Momo
  3. Big Bang – Loser
largeI kind of have a love/hate relationship with Big Bang. As in, I absolutely love some of their songs, but others I just hate. Ironically it’s usually their big hits that I hate… But the song Loser just hit hard with me. The song describes what it’s like to live with anxiety/depression perfectly and it really shows G-Dragons talent as a composer. I hope he writes more songs like this in the future!
Favorite line: “I started looking at the ground more than the sky”
    Band bias: G-Dragon
  4. GOT7 – If you do
    tumblr_nvekz2dssc1sibnioo2_1280
I only knew GOT7 from the song “just right” which is adorable and weird at the same time. So I was not expecting them to come out with a beautiful raw song about being in love with someone who pushes you away. The song surprised me and it made me love the boys even more.
Favorite line: “I am tired of these trials with already known results”
    Band Bias: Jackson
  5. IU – Twenty three
mv-iu-e28093-twenty-threeIU is my favorite kpop solo artist, she adorable and has a amazing voice. I love how original her songs are and her creativity. (I also love her in the Kdrama dream high, but thats something else). I love the song twenty three, because of its originality and the music video is so amazing!
Favorite line: “Pretend to be a fox that pretends to be a bear that pretends to be a fox”
Here are some songs that did not make the list, let’s call them.. honorable mentions:
